Purchasing School Uniforms for Cleveland's Neediest School Children
In collaboration with Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), Shoes and Clothes for Kids (SC4K) developed the Classroom Guarantee Pilot Program after teacher focus group meetings, discussions with CMSD senior leadership, and the success of SC4K’s Special Teams Package program on improving school attendance up to 24%. Thanks to an in-kind donation from LT Apparel’s French Toast brand, we have all the school appropriate clothing we need for the length of this three-year pilot program.
Every K-3 classroom in the Classroom Guarantee schools receive all the school appropriate clothing, shoe vouchers, individual and classroom supplies they need throughout the academic year.
The goal of the Classroom Guarantee pilot program is to increase school attendance over the course of the full school year and thereby improve Third Grade Reading Test passage rates. The focus on the K-3 level is intentional because third grade reading test scores are among the best indicators on whether a student will have a successful academic career. The same milestone is a key component of the new Say Yes to Education! initiative at CMSD. At the point of the beginning of pandemic in March 2020, schools in the Classroom Guarantee program had 7% overall better attendance than other schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
