Buses, Boxes, and Big Hearts: Stuff the Bus 2025 Breaks Records and Delivers Big for Kids in Need
This post was written by Ananda Berwa, SC4K Distribution and Engagement Intern
On Friday, July 25, hundreds of generous Clevelanders once again stepped up to make sure local kids head back to school with confidence and the tools they need to succeed. Now in its 19th year, the Fox 8 Stuff the Bus to Benefit SC4K event brought together sponsors, donors, media partners, volunteers, and community spirit in an unforgettable day of giving.
From sunrise to sunset, Fox 8 News hosted live broadcasts from its station downtown, rallying Clevelanders to donate new school supplies for local students. Meanwhile, just 10 minutes away at the SC4K warehouse on South Waterloo Road, an energetic crew of volunteers “un-stuffed” the buses, sorted, counted thousands of donated items, and stocked the shelves of our Free Store to get those supplies into kids’ hands as quickly as possible.
A Day of Energy, Cheer, and Community at Fox 8
The Fox 8 plaza was buzzing with activity all day long, thanks in part to our spirited visitors from local high schools. Cheerleading squads from Glenville High School, James Ford Rhodes High School, and John Hay High School amped up the crowd and kept the energy high throughout the day. Community mascots, superheroes, and a host of friendly faces from Fox 8 created a festive environment that inspired people passing by to jump in and donate.
“Watching the buses fill up and seeing so many people show up year after year to support kids—it never gets old,” said SC4K’s Executive Director, Monica Lloyd. “This event is such a powerful reminder of what Clevelanders can do when we come together.”
Several members of the SC4K team and SC4K supporters were featured guests on “Kickin’ it with Kenny” and other news segments throughout the day. Many thanks to:
- Kelly Rudloff, SC4K Board Chair
- Kate Kolthoff, SC4K Associate Board Co-Chair
- Demetric Banks, SC4K Associate Board Co-Chair
- Dan Donovan, Senior Director of Public Relations at Giant Eagle
- Kindra Helms, Managing Partner at Centric Consulting, Cleveland
- Heather Clayton-Terry, Enbridge
- Deb Evans, 5th Grade Teacher at Harvey Rice Wraparound School
- Rachel Way-Cherry, SC4K Associate Board Member
- Marcia Hatcher-Roberts, Principal of Holy Name Elementary School
- Geneva Burgess, Assistant Principal at Adlai Stevenson K-8 School
And all day long, vans and trucks pulled up filled with donations that had been collected at corporations and organizations during the weeks leading up to Stuff the Bus! Organizations like Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland Metroparks, Thude::Tech, O’Neill Healthcare, Trust Bank, and so many more made it their mission to spread the word to employees and members…and the donations just poured in!
Behind the Scenes at SC4K: Volunteers Make the Magic Happen

A Surprise Donation Leaves Us Speechless
In the most unforgettable moment of the day, the Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council member organizations surprised us with an incredible collective donation of $60,000—a game-changing gift that will help us serve thousands more students this fall.
“This level of generosity was not only unexpected—it was deeply moving,” said SC4K Executive Director Monica Lloyd. “The member councils include the local unions and trade councils listed below. Each of these organizations understands that every child deserves to start school with dignity, and their gift will go a long way in ensuring that happens for so many Cleveland kids. We are beyond grateful.”
