Cozy Reads and Warm Feet: SC4K Partners with CMSD for a Holiday Event

Each month, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Customer Experience Team hosts an engagement opportunity at their Central Office for scholars from various primary schools within the district. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the Cleveland Public Library (CPL). The youth librarian visits and engages scholars in a story time and an activity in the family engagement room. The focus is always literacy and non-instructional outreach. In December, we welcomed students from Newton D. Baker School of Arts (NDB).
The scholars also enjoyed a special treat of hot chocolate, cookies, and enjoyed a fun activity of making gingerbread ornaments. Traditionally, December’s visit includes story time with the CEO! Our students were so excited to meet, engage, and learn from Dr. Morgan. At departure one scholar offered up her ornament and said ” Promise me you’ll give Dr. Morgan my ornament. I want him to have it!”
The magic did not stop there because Shoes and Clothes for Kids gifted each scholar with a new coat, pair of boots, winter gloves, hats, and socks! When one student opened her special package, she exclaimed, “I’ve been wanting these exact boots forever!”
The NDB scholars were raving about their experience, and their gratitude was the gift to us all! We all melted when a scholar enthusiastically said, “YES, now my dad doesn’t have to spend money!”
Thank you to everyone that made this moment memorable, meaningful, and worthwhile!
